Vivamax: Review of BAHAY NA PULA: Sadistic Spirit

Jane Legassi and her husband Rafi visited their ancient American ancestral home in Pula, Oriental Mindoro, before it was demolished and turned into a historic park called Mi Casa Filipinas. They find an old gramophone in the living room and try to play it, but the music played from scratch awakens the evil spirit of a sad WWII soldier (Yoshihiko Tora) who wanders the house again.
The housekeeper, Aling Esing, a mysterious old woman with a large birthmark on her right eye, was a faithful servant of the Jane family. It contains dark secrets that make you more of a spectator. Another character was Jane's ex-boyfriend Roger, who now works for Mayor Paula. The boss is not ready to accept the sale of the house, so Jane asks him to help her get the documents.
Julia Barreto certainly played teenage roles as Jane. There she is pregnant, her rapidly growing belly. There was a scene where she was topless with a top and back while taking a bath. Barretto had a scene where he was lying in bed and held it for a brief moment of indifference. This scene switches to another scene with a ghost. Barretto's face isn't shown here, so it can't be him.
Especially in the role of Rafi, Xian Lim was worried because his character was full of legal problems and jealousy. Rafi, played by Marco Gumabao, leads a lonely life as a civil servant until Jane's unexpected return arouses long-standing feelings. Veteran indie actress Erlinda Villalobos played the terrifying Aling Essing and cringed onscreen in every scene.
As he tells his story, Brilliante Mendoza slowly moves his shaky camera to accidentally focus on several old close-up photos of nameless people to create a creepy atmosphere. Still, the whole opening sequence of the play and those citizens looking out their windows was made for looks, but it didn't matter in the end for the story.
The progression of the main story is overwhelmed by long unnecessary details, such as the home visit of the residents of Casa Manila, the belligerent person at the city hall and the embezzlement of public funds by Rafi, as if to soften the story of the occupied Casa. I wish Mendoza had talked more about the Japanese soldier and the Filipino girl he likes. This should have been the crux of the story. 4/10
