Review of KING RICHARD: Deeply Determined Dad

February 24, 2022

Sisters Venus and Serena Williams took the tennis world by storm in the 1990s, becoming superstars in a sport not generally associated with African-Americans. They always have an aggressive, confident and domineering aura and attitude. His parents, Richard Williams and Oracin "Brandi" Price, supported him in all his games. This movie tells how Richard trains his two champions.

Despite having to navigate the rough streets of Compton, California, Richard Williams always believed he had two tennis champions at home. He worked tirelessly and fearlessly to get the coaches he needed to progress his game and was able to teach Paul Cohen (Coach John McEnroe and Pete Sampras) and Rick Mackey (Coach Jennifer Capriati) how to coach.

Richard worked hard to educate his daughters, which worried some of his neighbors. But he emphasized that they should always be humble when they win. He was very concerned that his daughters might burn out at a young age, and even while skating, he made the controversial decision to exclude them from the junior tournament, although this led to conflict with Cohen and Macchi. .

Richard Williams seemed to be a strict and withdrawn father and coach. Submissive and demanding, she promotes her daughter to different coaches, but gets in the way of the coach's training style when he clashes with her. However, Will Smith's good intentions as an actor influenced his portrayal of Richard, making him the perfect father. There is no better cast that can make a bad habit cute.

As Brandi Aunjanue, Ellis creates a strong mother figure, who is generally supportive of Richard's ambitious plans, but isn't afraid to speak her mind. To play for the Sydney Venus, 15-year-old Sania must first learn to play tennis and play the on- and off-court drama that is required of her. Tony Goldwyn and Jon Bernthal play high-profile tennis coaches who are too good to be true to tolerate Richard's somewhat abusive interference.

The story is carefully toned down to show the main characters Richard, Venus, and Serena in a flattering light. Everyone is respectful and obedient, agreeing to see Cinderella as a life lesson, goosebumps from pure acting (from Arancha Sánchez-Vicario!). This Reynaldo Marcus Green biopic is so well done the old-fashioned way that it all seems too perfect to be true. 7/10.
