When it comes to Indonesian cinema, our industrial films don't seem to dare leave their comfort zone. Genres such as religion, novels, biographies, comedies and dramas are still considered the public's favorite genres and have continued to dominate Indonesian movie screens in recent years.
Of course, there are some directors who dare to get out of it. Call him Gareth Evans through his two action films, The Raid and The Raid 2: The Phenomenal Rogues, Both at Home and Abroad. Then the writer / director Joko Anwar who always produces unusual works in his filmography. Then The Mo Brothers is a movie that horror movie lovers have always been waiting for. Although the income of these films has not yet reached the level of the "avant- garde " and some have even lost money, their efforts have helped to increase the variety of colors in Indonesian cinema and to show that the skills of Indonesian directors are not inferior to the industries. films from other countries.
This new breakthrough in the Indonesian film industry is represented by Suryanation and Kaninga Pictures through their high-budget film, Bangkit! . What Makes Rise! So special is the interesting fact that this film is the first disaster film with CGI effects ever made in the history of Indonesian cinema. But then questions and doubts emerged in the community. It is with a production budget of only 13 billion THAT, the film Bangkit! can it compete with disaster films produced by other countries that cost tens to hundreds of times more kisses?
Director Rako Prijanto and writer Anggoro Saronto also realized this. Contrary to what the marketing team advertises, the use of CGI effects in this film is by no means the main selling point, but rather a complementary element to the story. Here we can see that the film goes up! in fact, the focus is on emotional reactions and how the central characters deal with the catastrophic catastrophe that could happen in Jakarta, as opposed to a group of people like those most often sold by Hollywood disaster films. For the characters from the movie Rise! award for superheroes who have extraordinary skills to save Jakarta. just ordinary humans becoming victims, so they choose to rise up and fight to save their loved ones and the city they live in, modern to become heroes.

The writing of these strong characters was also successfully brought to life on screen by the best Indonesian actors of today. Vino G. Bastian appears as Addri, a hero for everyone, but not for his family. The moments that force her to show her tender and emotional side seem right, without leaving the impression of being weepy and superficial. Deva Mahenra and Acha Septriasa also looked impressive as a couple in a sedan on the edge.
Not only that, the technical strength in Film Rises! cannot be underestimated. CGI quality effects can indeed be considered mediocre, but their use seems to be kept to a minimum and is also supported by a spectacular sound design which adds a good impression to the Bangkit movie! . Action scenes involving the main characters use more practical implications , while the CGI effects only serve to complement the background. Therefore, the interaction between the characters and the disaster, as well as the support that is being built, feels more real and the story. The new CGI effects are used extensively in large-scale action scenes, such as the destruction of buildings and bridges, which fortunately are not distributed too much in the film.
Unfortunately, strong character writing doesn't apply to secondary characters. Like Hadi, Arifin's boss, played by Ferry Salim, he is nothing more than a " stupid boss " who cannot be trusted, no matter what his subordinates say. In this film, the character is made a lot more stupid and annoying than similar disaster films. Movies Get up! also confused to start at the beginning of the film, especially in the introduction to the character of Addri. Building the Addri family and its children is never more than a cliché. Stories like the backstory of children whose fathers, fathers who don't have time for their families (in this case, not present at the artistic stage), to wives who feel abandoned, are all made as generic as possible to describe their relationship. without any attempt to leave the Formula. Also, Indri, Addri's wife, played by Putri Ayudya, is probably the weakest main character written and played in this film. Both the emotional representation of the mother and her chemical mother with addri, he was never able to make the three main characters. Even his interactions in scenes using CGI effects don't have a good continuity compared to his co-stars.
