Ben (Sid Lucero) is a cruel shark who beats his orphan-looking wife Emma (Angeli Khang) every night before running away. One day, an ex-prisoner Alfred (Paolo Gumabao) moves next door. Through a peephole she looked directly into the other bedroom and witnessed the sexual abuse Emma had to endure every night at the hands of her husband. At first he was happy to enjoy the vision, until one night he had to do it himself.
Originally, this film had the vibe of Peque Gallaga's classic sex drama Noches de escorpión (1985) with a hole as how the boy next door meets the girl of his dreams. However, this new film directed by Mac Alejandre had a story that went in a different direction, written by none other than master screenwriter Ricky Lee . Unsurprisingly, for most of the past year, there has still been as much dirty sex and gruesome violence as there is in the Vivamax universe.
Veteran Sid Lucero and newcomer Paolo Gumabao gave intense animal performances of their respective characters. Ben, the sadistic son of Lucero's mother, was a demonic beast personified, as his broken brown face and body effortlessly convey. Alfred de Gumabao was portrayed as a brave sodit who comes to the aid of a damsel in distress, but this man, who survived prison as a pimp, was not to be one-dimensional.
It's a shame that the nymph Angeli Khang couldn't live up to her character, the woman caught in the middle of this sexual tussle. Of course, he had a body to show off and dared to show it all in front of the camera. However, his interpretation of Emma was very superficial and numerical. His face was so blank, even in the scariest and most emotional scenes. A more experienced actress could have taken this character further.
Director Alejandre has gone above and beyond in his boldest Vivamax film My Husband My Lover. Its three main actors were practically naked for the entire first half of this film and performed all kinds of sexual acts. Gumabao has beaten the monkey in all three of his films and this time he has also shown the whole banana (probably a prosthesis). And so the dirty game of shameful supremacy continues at Vivamax. 4/10.
