Vivamax: Review of BREATHE AGAIN: Suffocating the Senses

June 3, 2022

Joanna (Arriela Arida) and Paulo (Ivan Padilla) have been walking steadily for seven years. All his girlfriends are married and his parents d. Stephen (Ray PJ Abellana) and Bridget (Liz Allindogan) may miss their train. Adding to this personal pressure, his boss's (Toby Martin) job as CFO was putting pressure on him as he prepared for promotion.

One night, Paulo suddenly asked the expected question, and Joanna agreed to his suggestion. To celebrate, book a romantic weekend getaway for the two of you at a beach resort. However, when he gets there, Paulo prefers to ride a motorcycle with his friends and do different things with Vivian (Gila Cuenca). Meanwhile, he leaves Joanna to take freediving lessons with instructor Robert (Tony Labrusca).

The strange thing about this "romantic" movie is that there is no romantic chemistry between the spouses here. Joanna and Paulo felt like a bad couple from the first time we met, how could they be together for seven years? We see all the red flags around Paolo and wonder why Joanna is dealing with him. It was the way Joanna yelled at Paolo as loudly as a hunter in the market. horrifying.

I love Ariella Arida's Joanna when she's single and able to express herself through her art. Every scene Joanna does with Paulo or Robert makes me feel bad for Arida. As in his previous films, Padilla looks boring and rough like Paulo, even in his sex scenes with women. In addition to his character's "real" protector, Robert, the Labrusca actor is known for being self-absorbed and full of himself.

Director Ravi Francisco made sure we got a sense of how busy Joanna was at this point in her life. From the tight wedding dress she wears in the opening scene to all the snorkeling scenes, the style is clear. However, the story is very simple and predictable, and the performances are too weak (Padilla and Labrusca) or Hammy (Abelana and Alindogan) to catch their breath and like to progress fast all the time. 1/10.
