Review of JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION: Fitting Franchise Finale
June 6, 2022
It's been four years since the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, when baby Macy Lockwood unleashed the dinosaurs on the US mainland. Dinosaurs lived with humans all over the world today, and there were various problems associated with this coexistence. Maisie (Isabella Sermon) is now 14 years old and lives as the adopted daughter of Claire Dering (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Owen Grady (Chris Pratt).
One day, Maisie and Beta (the little girl from the Blue Velociraptor that lives in the woods near Owen's house) are kidnapped and taken to the island of Biosin (yes, the same biotech company behind the evil Nedri in the first movie). Claire and Owen track down Macy's in Malta, where they meet ex-Air Force pilot Kayla Watts (Diwanda Wise), who helps her fly her plane over them.
Meanwhile, Dr. Eli Sattler (Laura Dern) and Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) investigates swarms of locusts that threaten the world's grain supply. Using Dr. Ian Malcolm's (Jeff Goldblum) connections, he was able to gain access to the labs by returning these parasites to Biosyn. All of our heroes, including Dr. Henry Wu (BDWong), cross paths as they face a looming global genetic threat.
Obviously, the main attraction of this entire franchise was the dinosaurs, and they succeeded. In addition to traditional dinosaurs such as Brachiosaurus, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Velociraptor and Tyrannosaurus, many new evolutionary dinosaur species such as fur or feathers were also introduced. Gigantosaurus (a large carnivorous dinosaur) and Therizinosaurus (a dinosaur with long sharp claws) in the foreground.
The action can be fast and furious, with hunters chasing a truck and motorcycle through the narrow streets of Malta, a flying Quetzalcoatl attacking a plane in mid-air, or a terrifying preoraptor chasing Owen and Kayla over an ice dam. And of course there were quiet, weird and scary scenes, like Claire diving into a tree-lined pond to escape a pet dinosaur, or Grant and his friends hiding in a dark cave and riding birds of prey.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of this film was the reunion of the original big three of Neil, Dern and Goldblum for the first time since Jurassic Park III (2001). Neil was still famous at 74, and his scenes with Dern were still romantic. By contrast, the Jurassic World duo of Pratt and Howard dwarf their respective sides. Pratt's unique method of taming dinosaurs with his own hands has become a joke.
Joining the ongoing line of nostalgia-filled film franchises (from Spider-Man to Ghostbusters, The Matrix to Top Gun), there are plenty of throwbacks from the first Jurassic Park that fans are sure to love. very happy Along with John Williams' original cast and soundtrack, there were a few scenes that initially sounded like a Spielberg remake, especially the reappearance of the killer Dilophosaurus.
At first it was all pretty long, all dinosaur thieves, black market sellers, hackers for hire and a strange woman dressed in white. Then the same old moral tug-of-war between genetic engineering and big business returned and, ironically, turned the focus to the grasshopper. However, as an ending, it still magically works to end the entire franchise better than the previous two films. 7/10.
