In the first Escape Room (2019), after escaping a deadly escape room created by the Minos Corporation, Zoe (Taylor Russell) and Ben (Logan Miller) decide to head to New York to gather more evidence. Organization for authority. But circumstances caused the two of them to suddenly break down and be trapped inside a subway car that had run to the end of the tracks.
There are four other people with them in the train car: Rachel (Holland Roden), Brianna (Indy Collier), Nathan (Thomas Cockerell) and Theo (Carlito Oleiro). They realize that they all survived Minos' previous escape room and have met up to play a new game. In addition to the electric van, they must escape laser-coated sofa floors, sand-logged beach huts, and city streets covered in acid rain.
There is a brief introductory segment about Zoe's session with a psychiatrist. But when he and Ben arrived in New York, director Adam Robitel wasted no time on the show and jumped into the action. You have to admire the hard work of the actors to give their characters vivid and exaggerated portraits of their true selves, laser cut, sandblasted, acid-dried or dipped, all touched up from the CG effects.
The escape situations in this sequel are even more impossible and insane than in the first film. Running, crawling, and jumping everywhere was more tiring for both film participants and audiences. Since it's already a sequel, there are characters you can imagine who are as immortal as the first film. It was fun overall, but you need to check your logic at the door.
This version on Netflix is not the same as the one that came out last year, which provides another explanation for who is behind the game. I think the first version is better thought out than this one. If there's a story about a new character I'd like to see perfected in the prequel, it's a game where Nathan, the priest, defeats five other priests in an episode that challenges their faith. Now that sounds interesting. 6/10.
