Vivamax: Review of ANG BABAENG NAWAWALA SA SARILI: A Punishing Possession

July 15, 2022

The film has been described as a remake of Eddie Rodriguez's Ang Babaeng Nawawala sa Sarili (1989), starring Dina Banifi as Albina. The original film is also streaming on Vivamax and is also on YouTube (follow this link ) if you'd like to watch it for comparison.

The beautiful Albina Tamayo (Ayana Missoula) was an aspiring model. He lived with his wealthy parents, Fidel and Evelyn (Alan Paul and Carlin Aguilar). She had just broken up with her six-year-old boyfriend Wendell (Adrien Allende) and soon began dating professional photographer Lawrence (Diego Luisago). She has just been accepted into the prestigious fashion house of haute couture designer Greg Manos (Mon Confiado).

One night Albina found an old necklace at home. While there, he begins to have nightmares about a mysterious woman (Ava Mendes) who is apparently trying to take over his body. She began to hear voices and soon became paranoid about what her classmates were saying about her or that her boyfriend was cheating on her. Meanwhile, the men are found dead after having sex with a mysterious woman dressed in black.

Screenwriter John Carlo Baccala described the character of Albina as a very complex character, experiencing varying degrees of physical, emotional, and psychological suffering. Unfortunately, at this point in her career, she was much more than debutante Ayana Misola. It would have been a great opportunity for him to showcase his acting skills, but unfortunately it showed his inexperience.

Aland, 42, looked old enough to be the father of 20-year-old Missoula. Loizaga was a similarly beloved character from his other Vivamax films. Confiado portrayed his character as a very sleazy tourist. Like Missola, the other girls (Azi Acosta, Micaella Raz, Andrea Garcia, Angela Moreno and Cesca Paredes) are not shy about getting naked, but they still need more acting classes. Phoebe Walker was surprisingly flat as the psychiatrist.

Directed by Roman Pérez Jr., this crime thriller transforms into exorcist-style horror following Vivamax's inexplicable formula of sex and violence. However, there was a wonderful episode where the entire ghost story was told in one long demo scene where the actors turned side by side in front of two cameras and the story was told with voiceover and earlier memories of Albina's childhood. 4/10
