Papang drug lord Fernando Castillo (Ronnie Lazaro) and his wife Mamang Valeriana (Shamine Centenara-Buencamino) have three trusted men they consider their children: Pedro (Mark Anthony Fernandez), Diego (Diego Loizaga) and Juan (Jessica Santos). However, stubborn Pedro gets ahead of himself and works behind Papang.
To get through the difficult times of their youth, good friends Fernando and Jose (Soliman Cruz) start a drug business that will become their life's work. Now Jose wants out for his wife Maria (Mickey Ferrioles) and daughter Adriana (Colin Garcia). What he planned as his last job with his family literally came true.
When Adriana bravely avenged her father's injury, Mamang sent her three sons to find her. Whoever captures Adriana will replace Papang as the head of the family. Meanwhile, all three went their separate ways to find him. Adriana isn't hiding to give private singing lessons to rich girls because she has a plan for revenge.
This is a big project of Vivamax bringing together the actors whom we have seen in various films last year. Fernandez, Loizaga and Santos headlined their own Vivamax films. Of the three sons, only Juan de Santos has character development. In his constant frustration, Pedro de Fernández is a predictable villain, while Diego de Loizaga only appears for scenes of lust.
As Adriana, Colleen Garcia goes from sweet and loving to vindictive and hot-tempered. He completely overruns the area in a close-up scene where he speaks a long soliloquy to his dead father. Since this is a Vivamax movie, it's no surprise that Meg Imperial (played by Jody DeJuan) has Garcia's bed scene. Vivamax sirens Rob Guinto, Katrina Dovi and Ivy Rodriguez show off some extra skin.
In addition to the ever-reliable Lazaro and Cruz, Jay Manalo (as Adriana Raul's silent bodyguard ), Archie Adamos (as corrupt police lieutenant colonel Vera Cruz), Raul Morit (as homeless beggar A.) and Dido dela Paz (as a corrupt Kong cadet ). As Valeriana, Buencamino dominates the screen as well as the stage . Ace Aguilar (as the nervous Mario) and Shinley Jenner (as the singer Claudia) stand out in minor roles.
Director John Reed took the story of "Ibong Adarna" from the classic Barbania royal court and brought it to the modern world of drug cartel. It's definitely an interesting concept and the cast is amazing. However, despite the film languishing in Red's mind for 15 years, the final act, one-dimensional characters, uneven pacing, and unnecessarily lust-inducing twists have been neglected. 6/10.
