Adam Reid (Ryan Reynolds) is a fighter pilot from 2050 who hijacks a plane and returns to 2018 in search of his wife, Laura (Zoe Saldana), who is stranded there. Damage to the plane during his flight leads Adam to a landing in 2022 when he meets himself as a 12-year-old (Walker Scobell). Together they travel back to 2018 in an attempt to destroy the time travel technology that has caused massive damage to the world.
Along with a larger mission to save the world of the future from the oppressive control of ruthless businesswoman Maya Sorian (Catherine Keener), Adam has also used his time travel to build bridges between his mother Ellie (Jennifer Garner) and his father Louis (Mark). ruffalo). It was also a chance to give some advice to his younger self, who was always the target of bullies in high school due to his short stature and skinny build.
Ryan Reynolds seems to play the same witty character in every movie, doesn't he? He definitely doesn't step out of his comfort zone playing the adult Adam Reid. He is the kind of hero that fans expect him to be, and he always brings out that wise and charming personality that feels like second nature to him. Adam de Reynolds has his flaws and weaknesses, but that's what the public likes him for.
It was nice to see a young Walker Scobell playing a young Adam in perfect harmony with Ryan Reynolds playing a mature Adam. Scobell captured Reynolds' thinking style and manner of speaking, we can really imagine him becoming something like Reynolds. It was a lot of fun to watch the two of them joke around about hilarious pop references, whether it's the lightsaber in Star Wars or superhero landing and the MCU multiverse.
As fun as it is, time travel is always tricky to start with because there will always be plot holes in the timeline if you think about every detail. However, this sci-fi comedy from director Shawn Levy also has its heart in the right place, with warm scenes with Adam's parents played by Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo being just as good without the drama. His scenes can fire up your tear ducts without causing a tantrum. 7/10
