Vivamax: Review of HUGAS: A Wanton Waste
January 14, 2021
Al and Lisel are two young members of a gang of bank robbers led by Boss Dencio. Both lovers want to marry and break up with the gang one day when some of their friends are beaten and killed by the rival gang members. Dencio decides to show off his activity and Al is in charge of his huge stockpile. In search of a change, Al decided to convert the warehouse into an auto repair shop.
The movie begins with a decadent woman washing a car. But no, this movie is not about a car wash at all. There's a bank robbery scene, but no, it's not a money laundering movie either. Interestingly enough, this has to be the only Vivamax sex movie that doesn't contain famous bathtub or pool sex scenes. It wasn't until the end, when Al spoke the last line, that the title "Hugas" made sense.
Sean De Guzman returns as the former henchman of a gang of thieves. He talks about the blind side of various souls after discovering philosophy as a symbol of the blind which will happen later in the movie. But with a cash register (no vault) with a bank teller in no rush to hack them, there's no back story on why killing people was so easy.
AJ Raval this time played with a pistol as Liesel. But unsurprisingly, he wasn't afraid to take off his clothes right away when he and Shawn pushed, which is what happened a few times here. AJ's bra-room counterpart, Cara Gonzalez, plays Diane, the girlfriend of Chief Dincio, played by Jay Manalo, the same original Tutui Mola, who is now more modest.
Famous character actors such as Solomon Cruz (as devout Boyong) and Bob Jebeli (as struggling James) will play members of the Dencio gang. Joko Diaz makes a short appearance as Dido from Dencio Namuse as the two discuss gang deals and personal debts over a pasta dinner. Director Román Pérez J. I tried to incorporate some stylistic ideas into the shots, lighting and blocking, but frankly, there's not much substance or story here. 2/10
