Review of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME: Fulfilling Fans' Fantasies

January 8, 2021

After his secret Spider-Man identity is revealed to the world, it's Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and his Aunt May (Marissa Tomei), his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and his best friend Ned Lee (Jason Batalon). . . in deep confusion. Dr. Strange (Benedict Kumbert) agrees to do a magic so that no one remembers that he is Spider-Man. However, Peter's constant interference causes the wizard to break, summoning everything Peter knows from the others' perspective to his current world.

With this script written by Chris McKenna and Eric Sommers , director Jon Watts even managed to replace two of Tom Holland's most popular and profitable Spider-Man films, Homecoming (2017) and Home Far From Home. . (2019) The most imaginative storyline in this current series has allowed Spider-Man to appear in any of the richest and most diverse cinematic universes over the years. Trust me, they brought a lot of surprises for us fans.

Tom Holland's portrayal of Spider-Man has been a fan favorite since his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War (2016). He pulls it all off with the high-energy action and soft humor he's known for. Dr. He overcomes Strange's original spells or good intentions to improve the villains, which complicates every plan and even leads to painful tragedy. Holland always projected some vulnerability that made us want to sympathize with him and cheer him on.

As seen in the films, many villains from previous Spider-Man films reappear to wreak havoc on screen: Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2 (2004) with Alfred, Green Goblin from Spider-Man (2002) with Willem Dafoe. Molina, Sandman from "Spider-Man 3" (2007), Thomas Hyde Church, Lizard from "The Amazing Spider-Man" (2012) and Electro from "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" (2014) with Jamie Foxx. It was fun to watch them trade off their bad behavior.

[SPOILER ALERT!!!] The biggest surprise comes an hour and a half into the movie, when Andrew Garfield (from the Marc Webb series) and then Tobey Maguire (from the Sam Raimi original series) reveal their rumored guest appearances. And mind you, it wasn't just a cameo. These two actors meet up with Tom Holland and continue to fight the villains until the final battle. In particular, it's these emotional references to his show that lead to so many heartwarming moments.

This hilarious movie is fan service taken to the next level. Cheers as special guest characters show up and share their own stories of favorite or nostalgic memories. During the credits scene and the post-credits scene, there were more exciting surprises to come in the MCU. For Filipino Spidey fans, there's also the added joy of hearing lines in Tagalog. It was such a fun movie with such a well-crafted and touching story that only Marvel could deliver. 10/10.
