International groups of female secret agents, Mace (Jessica Chastain) of the CIA, Mary (Diane Kruger) of the German BND, Khadija (Lupita Nyong'o) of the British MI6, Graciela (Penelope Cruz) of the Colombian DPR and Lin ( Fan Bingbing) of China MSS compiled under these circumstances to prevent a critical hard drive containing top-notch encryption software from falling into the hands of unscrupulous individuals.
There have been many films about secret agents, many of which have actresses kicking their butts, from Angelina Jolie (Salt), Jennifer Lawrence (Red Sparrow) and Charlize Theron (Blast Blonde) to Melissa McCarthy (For Spies) But this was not unusual to see a serious film in which several famous actresses teamed up as spies. The numerical name "355" was the code name for spies during the American Revolution.
The women, who have earned their share of acting awards in their careers, also grabbed attention with their classy fight scenes. Three women from "355" have starred in action films. Chastain previously played CIA agents in Zero Dark Thirty (2012) and Ava (2020). Krueger played the role of a former intelligence officer in The Agent (2019). Nyong'o also played a quirky spy in Black Panther (2012).
Mace's performance here led to a plethora of Chastain roles this year, from "The Wedding Scene" to "The Eye of Tami Fey," both of which won awards. Kruger expected the highest level of masculinity in his sequence of actions. Nyong'o stood out for her dazzling screen presence as the clever and skilled Khadija. Li looked very bad in Fan Bingbing's third act, but he certainly made the most of his short screen time. Cruz didn't get much acting because Graciela was a psychiatrist in her first job, but she got more acting credits.
Among his male opponents were sexualized statements like "I got beat up by a bunch of girls..." and I think that was inevitable in a movie like this. Equally inevitable were scenes of running and arguing women in high heels. Of course, the plot is already familiar, even banal. However, the chemistry between the women was very good and realistic, which made this action movie that rocked the world very exciting and even funny. 6/10
