Sinepiyu is an annual film festival organized by the FEU Film Society and was established in 2007. The festival encourages young filmmakers from Far Eastern University and other schools in the Philippines to tell stories about social realities. This year's theme is 'Ebayo' (beyond), which represents courage, determination and perseverance to tell stories despite the weather and strong waves encountered in life's journey.
CinePure's 14th year has a total of 30 finalists in four main short film categories: All-Tamaraous (11), Interscholastic Narrative (9), Interscholastic Documentary (5), and Interscholastic Experimental (5). They will be streamed for free on the Philippine Film Development Council website. Physical screenings are also held at the Kinematheque Center Manila.
The 11 finalists in the All-Tamarao category covered a wide range of genres and topics. Uncertainty and horror reigned – “A Stop Over” (Jeven Manzano, 19 min.) A group outing gone wrong. Most of them were there - "Pempem at ang Bomba Magazine" (Migs Rualo, 19 min), the eccentric Dada García as a 15-year-old girl who finds a women's magazine in her school bag. Four were family dramas. Cinematographer Imran Aquino's work here was commendable.

Two of the 9 finalists in the Interschool - Narrative category had a martial law theme: "Un amomongo sa aton" ("The monster among us") (Vinzo Antuna, 16 minutes) Animated graphic short film about the "Escalante Massacre" in 1985 on the island of Negros, and "Gapos Sa Kadenang Walang Candado" (Dan Versoza, 6 min.) about a mother who talks about her daughter's exhausting thesis while watching a scene of torture.
"Top Fan" (Vien Dimaculangan, 19 minutes), a satirical comedy about an undercover writer (John Christian Magpante) who becomes a social media troll during the pandemic.
