Netflix: Review of SPIDERHEAD: Erratic Ethics

The Spider-Man Prison and Research Center accepts convicted criminals as voluntary research subjects in exchange for commutation of their convictions. The main investigator, the charismatic Steve Abnesty (Chris Hemsworth), with his trusted assistant Mark (Mark Pazio), tried various drugs. The prisoners include Jeff (Miles Teller), Lizzie (Courney Smollett), Heather (Tess Habrich), Rogan (Nathan Jones) and others.

Drugs investigated by Amnesty include the laughter-inducing G-46 (Lafodil), the speech-inducing B-15 (Verbalus) and the love-inducing N-40 (Luvatin). However, the experiment on I-26 (Darkenfloxx) went awry, causing extreme pain and suffering to the subject, whose questionable and reckless behavior soon led to the discovery of Abenstein's "perfect" experimental design and construction .

Because convicted felons would have to consent to experimental drugs or return to state prisons , the world would never have an Institutional Review Board. Steve Abnerstein agreed to the experiment only because of its questionable ethics. But let's face it, that's the gist of this dark comedy.

Despite his good intentions, Chris Hemsworth was not entirely believable as an A-list actor, and Steve Abnesty as the mad scientist could also be called flawed. He doesn't know how to manage his character, he can't balance his image from altruistic to megalomaniac, he seems confused. But his phrase about the excesses and occasional exploitation of beautiful people rings true at this point.

The film showcases the talents of director Joseph Kosinski and actor Miles Teller; Both played Top Gun: Maverick. Filipino viewers will see Mark Pazio as Hemsworth's Dr. Note the Frankenstein ego. However, the characters weren't all sympathetic, the narrative style wasn't very engaging, the soundtrack was too random (from deck rock to new wave, Herb Alpert's "Rise Up"). It could be good. 5/10
