Vivamax: Review of PURIFICACION: Priestly Purging

August 5, 2022

Inspector Gabriela Isidro (Kara Gonzalez) is currently investigating a series of gruesome murders of women known as sinners in Sta. Monica. The victims were found hanging from trees with scar-like wounds on their arms and legs. His partner in beating Paeng Banez (Kier Legaspi) and the young priest, Father Ricardo Baltasar (Joseph Elizalde), helped him investigate the evidence.

Gabriella is under intense pressure from her boss (Lander Vera Perez) to solve crimes. Aling Mira (Raquel Monteza) is a pathetic widow grieving over her son's suicide when she discovers his wife is a whore? Is Brian (Andrew Mola), an assistant, in a relationship with his wife Julio (Gau Mapa)? Or will it be Victor Isidro (Fabio Eddy), Gabriella's wrathful husband who has affairs with several women?

Cara Gonzalez plays the main role here as the lead police investigator, but she doesn't get a chance to shine. While her character is a woman who is abused at home and accused of getting the job simply because she is the daughter-in-law of a congressman, she needs to be more confident at work to prove her worth. On the contrary, he seemed charming and hesitant and longed to follow the handsome young man.

Thanks to his aristocratic appearance, Joseph Elizalde is well suited for the role of a good man who seems innocent and denies hidden sin. His father Ricardo tends to be inquisitive and inquisitive and likes to quote every verse of the Bible from Joshua to Galatians as advice. Since her debut with Vivamax, Elisaldi hasn't been shy about flaunting her body, but this time in the role of a priestess she will play with six women.

With the exception of Gonzalez, all Vivamax beauties play the wrong victims. The cast includes Ava Mendes as Mistress Jade, Rob Ginto as the harlot Jasmine, Quinn Carillo as prostitute Criselda, Stephanie Raz as a talented church singer forced into a mistress, and Kat Dovey as drug addict Teresita, Gabriella's sister. Needless to say, those who sought purity would be filled.

Aside from Raquel Montesa, it's also interesting to see some of the previous onscreen Sirens returning here at Motherhood, such as Isadora (as Criselda's mother), Shirley Fuentes (as Emily's mother), and the former Mrs. M. World of the Philippines. Aurora Seville (Mother of Balthazar's father). After a string of small roles in previous Vivamax films, it's nice to see Cyrus Legazpi finally getting more screen time here.

Even if the decision is successful or not, the director of GB Sampedro is doing the right thing by dumping a string of red herrings to confuse the investigators in the chair. By revealing memories, it also provides the killer with enough background to explain his motives and modus operandi. The acting and special effects could have been better, but Sampedro's attempt to present a complex murder mystery with a disturbing religious tone is commendable. 5/10.
