Vivamax: Review of LAMPAS LANGIT: Worked-up Writers

August 19, 2022

Pulp writer Jack De Vera (Baron Geisler) and his wife, swimwear designer Mylene (Chloe Jenna), move into a new apartment. Their neighbors are acclaimed writer Arman Fuentes-Diaz (Ricky Davao) and his daughter Belle (Christine Barmas). Jake and Belle immediately felt a sexual electric current between them. While Jack starts writing novels about passionate relationships on his laptop, Armaan writes novels about them on an old typewriter.

The film, directed by Jeffrey Hidalgo, is about two writers. Veteran screenwriter Raquel Villavicencio also fills it with fun jokes about writing as a career. After discussing women and duck eggs, Armaan gives Jake advice on how to write a novel. Seeing Myleen upset, Armaan cites monogamy as the cause of PMS and advises her to forgive her husband for the author "breathing, eating, drinking and making awkward noises".

Arman Fuentes-Diaz is definitely the most interesting character in the film, and Ricky Davao definitely gets the best out of his role, as do the main characters Geisler, Jenna, and Barmas. Jenna is usually pretty impressive, but with Davao she's more refined and refined, actually quite good. Compared to his previous films, Barmas is usually quite stiff here, but in his final scene with Davao, he is relaxed and natural.

Baron Geisler also gave his character Jack his best shot, especially in the last fifteen minutes when reality took hold. He is very comfortable playing obsessive-compulsive children who can't handle stress and slowly lose their minds. You just know that if a pot movie like this had Baron Geisler in it, the guy would go crazy. Geisler's reaction to Davao mocking him and his wife drunkenly is his best scene.

To add something extra, there's a party scene where we find out that Mylene's friends are a mix of sexually fluent people. Carl/Greta (Vitex Paguirigan) and partner Trisha (Quinn Carrillo) are transsexual lesbians, while Ross (Ivan Padilla) is looking for the foursome and Ginny (Milana Ikimoto) is the permissive partner. However, their orgy is considered dry and provocative. The order went all over the place and was never mentioned again. 6/10
