Lola Alvarez (Victoria Justice) was a hardworking account manager at Los Angeles' Mythos Winery, run by slaver Calder (Craig Horner). After a painful betrayal by her co-worker Audra (Lucy Durack), who claimed her new business idea (which she had previously shared confidentially with Lola), Lola had to make an important decision: stay with Mythos or move on. . go out and do your thing
Lola is determined to secure a major emerging Australian wine brand owned by CEO Hazel Vaughn (Samantha Cain), and Lola is offered her services by Vaughn as a farm assistant (or "Jillaroo") on a sheep farm. on difficult tasks like mending fences or shoveling manure. Over the next two weeks, station manager Max (Adam Demos) slowly falls in love with Lola's tenacity and humor, as well as her mysterious aura and philosophical quotes.
Ever since she rose to fame with Nickelodeon's Zoey 101 (2005-2008) and Victorious (2010-2013), Victoria Justice has had the charm and talent to become a movie star. Adalat, now more mature at 29, was delightfully cute in Lola's scenes, clumsily learning all the rigors of a sheep farm. While balancing a new career and a budding romance, Lola has also been at home on the light drama stage.
Adam Demos played Max as a no-nonsense farm manager who harbors a secret about his past that he doesn't want to share. As obviously Max is in love with Lola, it's not so subtle what the big secret of her true identity is. Coming from a bold series like Sex / Life (2021), it was no surprise that Demos had topless scenes in this new film, even if it wasn't really necessary in the story.
With a title like The Perfect Mating, it wasn't really a mystery how the whole story would end. The plot followed the typical romantic comedy formula. A girl meets a boy, starts out strong, falls in love. One of them kept a big secret that the other didn't like and they broke up. Needless to say what happens next. This family story's setting on a quaint Australian sheep farm and storyline enriched with refined wine culture sets it apart from the typical genre. 5/10
