Netflix: Review of THE GRAY MAN: A-list Ambuscades

Cortland Gentry (Ryan Gosling) - convicted of murder since 1995. In 2003, he is visited by CIA agent Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton) in a Florida penitentiary. Fitzroy offered a reduced sentence in exchange for his cooperation In the Sierra program, the CIA will deploy a covert assassination mission. Now known as Six, Gentry quickly became one of the most effective men living in the "greys."

Six Bangkoks are said to have been hit on New Year's Eve. Before dying, Brand gives Six a key chain containing incriminating evidence. When his CIA chief Danny Carmichael (Rege-Jean Page) finds out, he realizes he's going to be in big trouble. Then, against better judgment, he hires desperate ex-CIA mercenary Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans) to take Six and return.

After a four-year hiatus since First Man (2018), Ryan Gosling turns into an action hero as he has to perform superhuman feats as Six, who always falls on hard times. . However, for all the cold and merciless murders he commits left and right, the Goslings' heart still beats inside, especially when it comes to young Claire (Julia Butters), Fitzroy's niece, who is sure to compromise. .

Ana de Armas plays CIA agent Dani Miranda, Six's understudy in the Bangkok mission and partner for the rest of the film. Her performance as a Bond girl in No Time to Die is definitely not as successful as she is involved in more intense action here. Veteran actors Billy Bob Thornton (as Six's mentor Fitzroy) and Alfre Woodard (as retired CIA chief Cahill) contributed their experience and knowledge as Six's senior agents.

As the psychotic Lloyd Hansen, the mustachioed Chris Evans is clearly enjoying himself. He didn't see action at first because he was just giving orders to his guys, but he got dirty in the third round. Reggie-Jean Page is incredible as the shallow, heartless and low-key new CIA chief Danny Carmichael. Jessica Henwick as the antagonist Suzanne Brewer can do more than just make jokes.

The $200 million budget becomes crystal clear as locations move from city to city and the explosive action gets bigger and wilder. The Russo brothers start small and effectively build up the action scenes before the city explodes into chaos. There are no superheroes here, but wow, they destroyed the center of Prague. It feels a little too long in the middle, but the torture scenes and Ivan's jokes (including the Ken doll joke) keep us on our toes. 6/10.
