Review of MORBIUS: Bound to Blood

March 31, 2022

Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) and his friend Lucien, also known as Myla (Matt Smith), first met 25 years ago in a hospital where they were both being treated for anemia. Her doctor, Emil Nichols (Jared Harris), noticed Michael's exceptional intelligence and referred him for further training. Currently, Michael is a brilliant doctor and scientist who managed to develop life-saving artificial blood, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize.

While working on anti-thrombotic elements in the saliva of vampire bats he collected in Costa Rica, Michael discovered a drug that could cure the disease he (and Milo) was suffering from. However, since testing such substances on humans is prohibited, he asked his beloved doctor to give him the serum on a ship in international waters. Conspired with Martin Bancroft (Adria Arjona). The dire consequences were not what they expected.

Morbius was a Marvel Comics character I had no idea existed. It was a Sony release, just like the original Spider-Man and related characters like Venom and Carnage, so it won't be directly connected to the Disney-owned Marvel Cinematic Universe. There is controversy among fans about how Sony has spoiled the MCU storyline, such as the appearance of Tom Holland's Spider-Man in the credits of Venom.

As an origin story, we see Morbius meet his best friend and blood brother, Milo, and his daring experiments take their friendship to the next level. Jared Leto played Morbius as dim-witted, brooding and morally confused, in contrast to Matt Smith (best known for Doctor Who and as the eleventh incarnation of Prince Philip), who played Miles with a strong voice. crazy

Aside from the vampire transformation, the CGI effects ranged from subtle (such as her ear moving in an echo) to explosive (such as her high-speed waves reproducing the bright colors of her suit). Director Daniel Espinosa effectively created an atmosphere of dread and terror, but kept things classified as PG. Last seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the character appeared in the credits and hinted at a connection to the multiverse. 6/10
